The Artistic World of Venice

Venice – a contemporary artwork by Laure-Anne Sarron inspired by the famous City of the Doges, Venice, showcasing the city’s colours.

This painting is created using acrylics on very high-quality fine art paper (ARCHES mill). The work belongs to the Horizons series and seeks to capture and synthesise the colours of a place, where each piece is the result of an intimate journey across the world. In this work, it is the hues of Venice, a historic city steeped in history and wonder, that are condensed.

A horizon line crosses the surface, dividing two coloured fields: the deep emerald green of the canal water, which acts as a shifting mirror, contrasts with the luminosity of the ochre and powder-pink brushstrokes of the Venetian palaces. This line functions as both a trajectory and a boundary: it suggests passage and crossing whilst marking the limit.
