REFUGEE (REFUGE)

Some everyday scenes, disarmingly simple, have the power to move us deeply. t was with this in mind that this work was created.

This light-coloured acrylic painting depicts a young girl immersed in her reading, comfortably seated on a large sofa. Behind her, a large window opens onto a blurred exterior - sky and greenery - reinforcing the sensation of her apparent smallness. A Buddha statuette, placed in front of an opening, and a green plant decorate the scene and anchor the space in an atmosphere of calm and serenity.

The deliberately blurred contours and the simplification of certain elements (the feet, the window, the details of the set) reflect the desire to retain a poetic appeal and preserve legibility, without losing sight of the superfluous. 

At a time when screens are invading our spaces and our attentions, I was touched by this scene: my daughter, so frail on this big sofa, finding refuge and soothing herself in the pages of a book. The disproportions - the enlarged sofa, the height of the window, the size of the book - accentuate the child's sense of fragility, but also the depth of her immersion in an inner world all her own.

The living room, a living space par excellence, a place of passage and movement, becomes here a sanctuary of silence and peace. The objects here evoke meditation and contemplation, and create an atmosphere conducive to introspection.

The artwork captures a simple moment in everyday life, offering a dual interpretation: that of the intimacy of a home through a familiar scene, and the more subtle one of retreat into an inner world shaped by the imagination, reading and daydreaming. A world unique to each individual. A world where the child has withdrawn, where his or her spirit travels in silence, far from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
