The Artistic World of Persistances

Persistances forms part of the Chromie series, a pictorial exploration centred on the study of colour through oil painting.

Using a limited palette of black, white, ochre and a deep ultramarine blue, colour bursts forth and light emerges from the material. Constructed like a mosaic, the surface is composed of a multitude of traces: each brushstroke is added, blends and transforms upon contact with the others, forming a dense, dynamic pictorial fabric.

The painting is built up through gradual layering over a yellow undercoat, a veritable reservoir of light. The initial gesture—black applied to this luminous base—establishes a fundamental tension between concealment and revelation. From this dialogue emerges the structure of the painting, oscillating between opacity and transparency, between depth and emergence.

Originally conceived as a metaphor for life’s journey, the work conveys the alternation of inner states: zones of shadow, moments of clarity, dense passages and luminous openings.

As it takes shape, the surface becomes a complex interweaving of layers and brushstrokes, creating an almost celestial atmosphere.

Through this composition, *Persistances* evokes an inner journey, echoing the fluctuations of life. Amidst bursts of hope and moments of doubt, a glimmer persists—fragile yet tenacious—suggesting that, even in the most uncertain of times, a light can always emerge.
