The artistic world of GINKGO

Ginkgo is part of the Chromie series, which explores color through oil painting.

From a restricted palette of white, Payne's gray, dark ultramarine blue, and brilliant yellow, this work makes color explode to extract light from it. Like a mosaic of traces, each brushstroke is added, mixed, and blended into the color, to create a luminous fabric in motion.

A walk in the city on an autumn morning. The sky is a luminous blue, the bluish-gray facades of the buildings capture the cold light, and suddenly: the burst of a ginkgo in full golden conflagration. Bright yellow, almost unreal, asserting itself against the mineral and urban silence.

Ginkgo does not describe this scene, it restores its sensation: the tension between the atmospheric softness and the intensity of the yellow, between the verticality of the buildings and the organic overflow of the tree. A deliberately reduced palette — only four colors — to get to the essence of what the eye retained.
